TRANSFORM LIVES THROUGH THE POWER OF MUSIC

Together we can empower young people across Africa and drive lasting and positive change in health, education, and equality.

Our work

MISSION & VISION

Brass for Africa is a leading social impact organisation. Our mission is to empower young people across Africa through the transformative power of music — driving lasting and positive change in health, education, and equality. We believe in a world where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and thrive.

Every week, we work with over 2500 extremely disadvantaged children and young people across Uganda, Rwanda and Liberia.

what we do

Our work directly supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by providing access to education, health, and equality.

MUSIC FOR EDUCATION

We deliver comprehensive life-skills education and robust career development
programmes, alongside targeted initiatives designed to prevent school dropout and ensure sustained youth engagement in learning.

MUSIC FOR health

We equip young people with vital HIV/AIDS awareness programmes, essential mental health support, and impactful public health campaigns.

MUSIC FOR equality

We champion inclusion through dedicated programmes for refugees, ensuring equal opportunities for children with disabilities, and actively advocating for gender equality for girls and young women.

how we work

We run a locally-led model to address extreme poverty in African communities, creating lasting change for generations.

  • AFRICAN & YOUTH-LED: Our locally established model means all Music & Life-Skills teachers are former participants from our programmes.
  • LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS: We collaborate with over 30 essential local organisations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • IMPACT DRIVEN: We are committed to making a measurable difference through rigorous monitoring and evaluation of our programmes.

Hajarah’s journey: A young mother following her dreams

After leaving school due to financial hardship, Hajarah faced a future of uncertainty while living with her grandmother. Her life shifted when she joined the Brass for Africa programme, where she transitioned from a life of isolation to one of leadership. Beyond learning percussion, she developed essential life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and public speaking, which gave her the confidence to navigate adulthood.

When Hajarah became a mother, she feared she would be excluded from her community and the programme. Instead, she was met with celebration and support, allowing her to balance motherhood with her musical ambitions. Now a talented female percussionist, she aspires to become a Music & Life-Skills teacher, proving to other young women that neither dropping out of school nor early parenthood can prevent them from achieving their dreams.
