Brussels Brass Band

As a community-based group, Brussels Brass Band welcomes all members of its local community and whole families to get involved.

Brass for Africa began partnering with Brussels Brass Band in 2015 to provide high level Music & Life-Skills education twice weekly, improving technical ability and performance skills. This enables the band to achieve a higher standard of playing, increasing their performance opportunities and their ability to raise funds.

The participants of the Brussels Brass Band are orphans, street children, refugees, or marginalised and vulnerable young people. The vast majority live on under £1 a day (Ugandan Bureau of Statistics) and cannot afford to attend school. Furthermore, the unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed a worrying number of children into exploitative and dangerous child labour. This project provides a safe and protected space which reduces the children’s vulnerability to predatory traffickers. For many, being a part of the Brussels Brass Band is their only pathway out of poverty.

They perform at events to raise funds towards school fees for some of their younger members.
