Brass for Africa has won a £1,000 Movement for Good Award!

Brass for Africa is 1 of 500 winners in specialist insurer Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good awards, which is giving £1million to charities this summer.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a catastrophic effect on some of the communities we work with across Uganda, Rwanda, and Liberia. The Movement For Good Award will be used towards our Music Relief Fund, contributing to the cost of an unfunded Brass for Africa Music and Life-Skills programme. This will allow many disadvantaged children and young people on those programmes to receive access to instruments and participate in twice-weekly music and life-skills training sessions and all the associated mental stimulus and wellbeing this brings.

Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of £1,000 available for donation. 13,695 charities were nominated by an amazing 253,879 members of the public.

Andrea Berbegal, Director of Development at Brass for Africa, is delighted so many friends and supporters got on board to nominate and help secure the award. She said: ”We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate Brass for Africa for this award. We know that the beneficiaries who participate in our programmes benefit hugely in many ways from playing and learning music. For many of them, playing their instrument is a way to escape the extremely difficult challenges they face on a daily basis, and with these increased challenges due to COVID-19 we are concerned for their health and wellbeing. 100% of this award will go towards our work in the field and transform the lives of many disadvantaged children and young people in Africa.”

Mark Hews, group Chief Executive at Ecclesiastical, said:  “Thank you to everyone who participated in our Movement for Good awards. Ecclesiastical is a unique financial services group. We are owned by a charity which means all available profits can be given to the good causes that are so important to our customers. As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of our business. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”
