TOPOWA! is a story of resilience and hope, carried along by a joyous celebration of music and life. At the heart of this film is the power of music to transform lives.

This award-winning documentary portrays the inspirational journey of twelve young musicians from Brass for Africa. Many grew up as street children in some of Uganda’s toughtest slums. The film follows them from their home in Kampala, to some of the world’s biggest music stages, where they perform with jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and virtuoso trumpeter Alison Balsom OBE.

From the dusty dirt roads of Katwe informal settlement to the paved streets of London and fields of Cheltenham, we follow Julius, Sumayya, Tadeo, Gilbert, and the rest of the Brass for Africa team. They are welcomed to the UK for an unforgettable experience that will transform their lives forever, and empower the next generation of musicians to follow their dreams. Directed by Inigo Gilmore & Philip Sansom and produced by PHIX Films.
