All of us at Brass for Africa would like to congratulate our Founder and Executive Director, Jim Trott, on being made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in Her Majesty The Queen’s New Year 2021 Honours List. Jim has been recognised for his services to disadvantaged children and young people in Liberia, Rwanda and Uganda.
Jim says: To say that I was shocked and surprised to receive this award would be an understatement! I feel extremely honoured and totally humbled to have been recognised in this way. Over the years, during my time in Africa, I have met the most inspiring, remarkable, talented and giving people, many of whom I am now privileged to call friends.
My involvement with Brass for Africa has also given me the opportunity to meet and work with incredibly generous people who have given so much, be it donations, time, expertise, or goodwill, all in support of our charity.
Our team, or as we often refer to it as “our Brass for Africa family”, are exceptional and I marvel every day at their commitment, passion, selflessness and the sheer hard work that they put in to ensure that we make a difference, release potential and create brighter futures for so many deserving young people.
So, although the honour has been awarded to me it really does reflect a huge team effort and I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey.
I also hope that everyone involved can take pride in this recognition from Her Majesty, who along with being the Queen of the UK is also the Head of the Commonwealth, of which both Uganda and Rwanda are proud members.
Thank you, Jim Trott MBE
