WHY BECOME A SECRET SANTA?

ACCORDING TO THE UN, CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES ARE AMONG THE MOST MARGINALISED OF THE WORLD’S YOUTH POPULATION. WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY YOUNG PERSON AND THEIR COMMUNITIES SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL AND THRIVE.

Propelled by extreme poverty, stigma and a lack of access to education, many children and young people with disabilities in Sub-Saharan Africa live in isolation with little hope for a bright future.

PROGRAMME 1:

SPECIAL CHILDREN SPECIAL PEOPLE

Brass for Africa supports SCSP’s objectives of inclusive education by delivering twice-weekly Music & Life-Skills sessions at the centre. We have seen great progress within this programme, and it has highlighted the importance of giving people with disabilities the opportunity to develop new skills and to learn.

PROGRAMME 2: TEENS AND TOTS NEURO DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

Brass for Africa delivers Music & Life-Skills education twice a week at the centre. The participants are not able to use brass instruments so they play with percussion instruments. Through this partnership, Brass for Africa is supporting Teens and Tots’ objectives of rehabilitation and giving the residents a platform to build their skills and flourish.

PROGRAMME 3: THE GOOD SHEPHERD HOME

This programme does much to raise the public profile of those challenged by disability, celebrating and highlighting their value to society. The inclusiveness of playing music in a band is not only hugely empowering to the individual, but also promotes an awareness and appreciation of the challenges faced.

PROGRAMME 4: DORNA CENTRE FOR AUTISM

In 2020, Brass for Africa began delivering Music & Life-Skills sessions at the centre twice a week. Through these sessions the Centre staff have reported incredible transformation among the participants. They now have the confidence to stand up in front of each other and partake in the music activities. The Dorna Centre Band have performed publicly, including playing for the Uganda Minister for Disability, and on National TV.

PROGRAMME 5: HANDS FOR HOPE

We deliver Music & Life-Skills education sessions twice a week to support extremely disadvantaged children and young people in the informal settlement of Namuwongo – one of the largest in Kampala. This programme supports the most vulnerable children with disabilities in the community.
